The Samtengang winter Bhutan trek is one of the easier low-altitude winter treks in Bhutan. It is an excellent trek for beginners and is easily completed within 3-4 days. You pass through some villages, enter dense forests of rhododendron and oak trees, cut across paddy fields, monasteries, lakes and much more. This trek also provides a rare glimpse of Bhutanese culture. In March each year, you can see the bright and beautiful rhododendron flowers in full bloom and on occasions the orchids as well.

On arrival at Paro Airport, you will be received by a Yetis & Dragons Bhutan Travel Agency Tour Guide and escorted to your comfortable hotel.
After a sumptuous breakfast, visit the National Museum (Ta-Dzong) - the Watch Tower of Paro Rinpung Dzong which was converted to the National Museum in 1968. Visit the Rinpung Dzong fortress which is located on a hilltop above the Pachu. The Dzong houses the District Administration office and the District Monk Body. It was built in 1645 AD.
Visit the Drukgyal Dzong, located 14 km away from the Paro town. Although in a state of dilapidation, this Dzong is of great historical significance. It was here that the Bhutanese decimated the invading Tibetans and drove them back to their wilderness. From here, the peak of Jumolhari 'Mountain of the Goddess' can be seen on a bright day. On the way back you visit Kichu Lhakhang. Kichu Lhakhang was built in 659 A.D. by King Songtsen Gampo of Tibet. This is regarded as one of the holiest places in Bhutan as this was the place from where Buddhism first set foot in the country.
The next day, you'll be driven to Thimphu to visit the Takin mini zoo, to see the Takin, the National animal of Bhutan. Also visit Drupthop Lhakhang -- the nunnery and the Folk Heritage museum.
Post lunch, you can visit the old painting school, the National Library and the Weaving Center. In the evening visit the nearby emporiums for some shopping and stroll around Thimphu. Have dinner at your hotel in Thimphu.
Take the route to Punakha over Dochula. Visit 108 Drukwangyel Chorten and Chhimi Lhakhang-the temple of fertility. You will have lunch at Punakha. After lunch , visit Punakha dzong, the superb one! And also enjoy magnificent views from Khamsumyule Namgyel Chorten.

Punakha - Limbukha (start of trek)
The trek starts from Changokha village- located opposite the Punakha Dzong. On the route, you will pass by villages, paddy fields and lush green forests of pine and rhododendron. You will camp overnight at Limbukha.

Your trek in Bhutan continues to pass by lush and pristine rhododendron and oak forests. You can also see orchids on the way. You will camp in front of Lama Drukpa Kuenley's Lhakhang in the middle of Chungsakha village. Here you can observe a Bhutanese village at very close quarters. It goes without saying that you will experience Bhutan travel in its true and original colors. On this trail, you can see the paddy fields, the local Bhutanese people, farmhouses, village of Sha Wangdi, lake and much more. Stay the night at the overnight camp at Samtengang.
At Tikizampa, where your scenic trek culminates, you will bid goodbye to the cooks, the horse men and other trekking staff. A car with a driver will meet you to drive you to Wangdue. In the afternoon, visit the Wangdue Dzong. Stay back the night at your hotel in Wangdue.
You will drive to Wangdue over the Dochula pass (3150 m) which will take approximately 5 hours. On the way, stop at Thimphu for lunch and then continue the journey toward Paro. Enjoy a sumptuous dinner at the hotel, then retire for the night.
